He lets me rest in green meadows;
He leads me beside peaceful streams.
He renews my strength.
He guides me along right paths,
bringing honor to His name.
Jesus, the good shepherd, knows how hectic and stressful your life is. He knows that being a teenager, a mother, a student, an employee, and a young woman who wants to follow Him is a lot for anyone to carry. Your good shepherd wants to provide you with rest and peace. He also promises to renew your strength when you feel you can’t go on anymore. And because He is the good shepherd, He wants to guide your paths.
Picture a shepherd leading his sheep safely down a mountain, from lush green pastures up high to the barnyard below. The path is steep and narrow. On one side there is hard rock and on the other there is the mountain’s edge. One missed step and a sheep could be injured. But the shepherd’s voice is gentle and assuring, reminding the flock that he is there and will lead them safely home.
Remember this image when you find yourself in hectic and stressful times. Your good shepherd wants to guide your steps along life’s path. Why does He even care? This passage tells us it is to bring honor to His name, so that the rest of the world can see how kind and good your shepherd is!
