So, let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God.
There we will receive His mercy,
and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.
On a trip to Europe, I visited a castle that was restored to its original glory. Each room is more beautiful than the one before it. But the most amazing room of all is the king’s throne room. Starting at the door and ending at the foot of the throne is a beautiful red carpet. The throne itself is covered in gold and precious stones. The walls have stained glass windows that let in the sunlight in a stream of rainbow colors. This room is stunning!
I couldn’t help but think of the people who, long ago, were dragged into this throne room to receive punishment for a crime they committed. I also thought of those people who might have slowly walked toward the throne, their heads lowered, terrified that the king might be displeased with whatever request they might make.
After seeing this throne room, I realized that whenever I pray I am entering the throne room of the King of the universe! The King of the universe--the one who made all heaven and earth! Because Jesus paid the penalty for my sins, I can boldly enter the throne room of the God of the universe and ask Him for His mercy and grace.
