This is my command—be strong and courageous!
Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.
I know your Bible commands me to “be strong and courageous.” But God, I feel anything but strong and courageous! How can you possibly ask me to be those things? You know my life. You know how I struggle to get through each day! And if being strong and courageous isn’t enough, God, you also want me to not be afraid or discouraged! Do you know what you are asking of me? There is so much uncertainty in my life. It seems that every time I think I’ve got my life’s plan together, everything changes and I have to start planning all over again.
According to this verse, God, you are commanding me to be strong and courageous, to not be afraid or discouraged. I know that I can’t be these things on my own.
But wait! You’re not asking me to be strong, courageous, and fearless or without discouragement on my own. You promised that you would be with me wherever I go. Thank you, God for the last sentence in that verse!
Today, God, help me to remember that I can be strong and fearless to face whatever happens because you, the God of the universe, are with me.
