We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because He has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with His love.
A man once found a butterfly cocoon. The cocoon had a tiny hole in it. The butterfly was struggling to squeeze itself through the tiny hole. It struggled for a while and then stopped. The man, wanting to be helpful, took a small pair of scissors and made the tiny opening bigger, so that the butterfly could get out of the cocoon more easily.
Unfortunately, what the kind man didn’t realize is that butterflies have to struggle through the tiny opening on their own. By struggling through that tiny opening fluids from the body are forced into the butterfly’s wings making it possible for the wings to be strong enough to carry the butterfly in flight.
There are times in our lives when we, too have to struggle. The Bible tells us that we can rejoice when we have problems and struggles because those things will help us develop endurance. Endurance builds character and character strengths our assurance of our salvation. The most encouraging part of the verses above is that we do not go through difficult times alone because God loves us He goes through each struggle with us though His Holy Spirit.
